M&M's

You might be saying “M&Ms?  Just a Smarties rip-off”.  And to be fair, you're kind of right; they were created after Forrest Mars Sr, son of the founder of the Mars confectionery company, saw soldiers eating Smarties during the Spanish Civil War.  So yes – the Brits got there first.  However, whilst Smarties remain, well, Smarties, the M&M brand has expanded to include various exciting and exotic things which have included raspberry, coconut, wild cherry and mint flavours, the oversized “Mega” M&M, chocolate blocks, cookies, and of course the annoying animated characters (“spokescandies”) for their advertising.  Over the same period, Smarties made a blue Smartie.
